Elaichi kel, the small welchi banana, about three inches long with thin skin and dense sweet pulp. This is the banana kept for naivedya and for upvas. Ours ripens naturally on our farmer members' fields with no carbide and no ripening chamber involved.
Carbide ripened fruit turns evenly yellow while the inside stays firm and bland. A naturally ripened welchi arrives a bit uneven, freckled brown in places, and tastes the way a banana ought to.
Two or three of them mash into shikran with milk and gul, go into sheera, or travel well in a lunch box. On a fasting day they make the best rajgira sheera you will eat.
Packs of 500g, 1kg and 2kg. Keep them out of the fridge, hanging up or in an open bowl. They move from just right to overripe within a day, so order the size you can finish.
Seasonal fruit is listed under fresh fruits, and the daily produce under organic vegetables.
